The Frida Project
February 2021
Client
The assignment was given by Het Schoter, and it was the exam assignment for the subject of Visual Arts. The topic was: What comes from afar… There was a lot of freedom in the assignment, so you could do whatever you wanted. I really tried to give it my own twist, and I think I succeeded in that.
Project
The assignment was all about taking inspiration from other cultures. So I did a lot of deskresearch into Native Americans cultures, but also Buddhism and the Egyptians. During the research I stumbled up on an painting from Frida Kahlo, I instandly thought I have to do something with this painting. So I decided to implement the Panamanians Mola’s into my final product. These are special, colorful textile designs originating from the Kuna Indians of Panama in Central America.
To end with the Frida Project I did a photo session in the scenery of the painting with a twist from the Mola’s. Scroll down to see the Mola and the painting of Frida Kahlo where I took inspiration from. There you can also have a look at the photos from the photo session.
