Unfolding stress
March 2025
Client
The assignment was set by the Creative Research minor at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA). This minor focuses on learning what creative research methods are, how to use and implement them in larger-scale studies.
Project
The assignment was to explore a topic through zine-based research. An zine is a small booklet where you can ask the participants to fill in information or answers questions you can give them. I did my research about stress and mental well-being among students. I wrote down some questions and gave my participants all the freedom to fill in the booklet as they felt good with. First I started by filling in an zine on my own, to explore how it works. Also to write down what my subject was going to be.

I then wrote down the questions I wanted to ask my participants. In the purple block, you can see all the questions I included. Some participants received the exercise via WhatsApp, along with the yellow image, which explained how to create a zine. They understood the assignment well, and I received some interesting zines back.

Here you can see the results I received from the participants.

The photo above shows how I presented my research at school, including the zines and my conclusions. What was really interesting was that, when expressing stress, all of my participants drew a kind of knot made up of many lines.
